Follow the Leader

“Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead.”(Luke 9:23 MSG)

Every leader needs a leader. I’m not sure that a statement like that would make much sense in today’s world. We live in a culture where people our encouraged to make something out of themselves. That we ourselves rise and fall based on our own actions. That we need to be submitted to nobody but ourselves. Materialism says that the cool car, hot girl and fun life are attainable based off of what we do in life or how hard we hustle. One of the current fads as of late is that you don’t need an education. That if you hustle hard enough you don’t need anyone but yourself. I don’t believe that to be true.

Every leader needs a leader. Think about it! Michael Jordan needed Phil Jackson. LeBron needs Tyron Lu, Brady and Bill, Jeter and Tory. The greatest of leaders still need someone to make the play up on the sideline. In some ways that’s what Jesus does with and for us. In Luke 9:23-27 we see Jesus make has statement that are hard to swallow in a self-absorbed world. Things like, “let me lead your life”, or “Self-help is not help at all” and “Self-sacrifice is my way.” We see these statements and write off everything else Jesus says like, “Follow me and I’ll show you how” and “I’ll show you the real you.”

Psalm 22:24 says “He has never let you down, never looked the other way when you were being kicked around. He has never wandered off to do his own thing; he has been right there, listening.”

John 10:10 says “The enemy has come to steal, kill and destroy, but I have come to give you life abundantly.”

2018 has the potential to be a great year. One where you will see God to great things in your life. The question is what leader are you following?
