January 4, 2012 – The first Wednesday night of 2012. 2011 was great, but 2012 will be even better.

The youth group that night was challenged to answer two very important questions.

Who is God? Who are you?

Your answers to these two questions will set the tone for what is join to happen in 2012. Leave your answers in the comments box. You can even put ANONYMOUS in the name if you would like.

Lent

Psalm 51

1-3Generous in love—God, give grace! Huge in mercy—wipe out my bad record.
Scrub away my guilt,
soak out my sins in your laundry.
I know how bad I’ve been;
my sins are staring me down.

4-6 You’re the One I’ve violated, and you’ve seen
it all, seen the full extent of my evil.
You have all the facts before you;
whatever you decide about me is fair.
I’ve been out of step with you for a long time,
in the wrong since before I was born.
What you’re after is truth from the inside out.
Enter me, then; conceive a new, true life.

7-15 Soak me in your laundry and I’ll come out clean,
scrub me and I’ll have a snow-white life.
Tune me in to foot-tapping songs,
set these once-broken bones to dancing.
Don’t look too close for blemishes,
give me a clean bill of health.
God, make a fresh start in me,
shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life.
Don’t throw me out with the trash,
or fail to breathe holiness in me.
Bring me back from gray exile,
put a fresh wind in my sails!
Give me a job teaching rebels your ways
so the lost can find their way home.
Commute my death sentence, God, my salvation God,
and I’ll sing anthems to your life-giving ways.
Unbutton my lips, dear God;
I’ll let loose with your praise.

16-17 Going through the motions doesn’t please you,
a flawless performance is nothing to you.
I learned God-worship
when my pride was shattered.
Heart-shattered lives ready for love
don’t for a moment escape God’s notice.

18-19 Make Zion the place you delight in,
repair Jerusalem’s broken-down walls.
Then you’ll get real worship from us,
acts of worship small and large,
Including all the bulls
they can heave onto your altar!

As we enter into this season of Lent, we at Launch Student Ministries remember that Lent is not about denying something to ourselves (for example: pop, cussing, chocolate, etc.) but Lent is about denying ourselves and allowing God to work in us a new.

No Fear Tonight

Not a spirit of fear

2 Timothy 1:7 says “God did not give me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and of a sound mind.
Fear can come in many shapes and sizes. We can see it as anger, we can see it as depression, we can see it as hurt. The question is what do we do with this fear. I don’t believe that it is okay to sit with these issues and not do anything about it. We also can’t expect God to swoop down and take all of these fears away when we are sitting on our hands. James 2:26 says “For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.” See we can say we have all the faith in the world, but until we walk our faith out, God can’t do anything. This is a hard lesson to learn however it’s very important. So many times we find ourselves with these walls of fear up, and we allow ourselves to become so frustrated with God, when this issue isn’t His fault! It’s our own!!
Just as Benaiah Chased that lion into the pit and killed him (2 Samuel 23:20) we have to do the same with our enemies (anger, depressions, sadness, etc.). If we actively seek out our enemies to destroy them, God will be there by our side. Isaiah 54:17 says “No weapon formed against me shall prosper.” Philippians 4:13 says “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” James 4:7 says ” Humble yourselves before God. Resist Satan and HE WILL FLEE FROM YOU! In order for the things in our lives to be changed we have to want to change, and we have to believe with the faith in Christ that things will change.
Lord I pray right now for walls of fear in any way shape or form to be torn down. I pray for the strength it takes to make a decision to stand up against our enemies and believe you are by our side. Lord I pray for a peace of mind that is needed to get through these hard times. Jesus fill us with the happiness of your love……Amen.
